10/17/2005

Lady Cat basketball player Samantha Conner (Everett, Pa./Everett High School) was named Honorable Mention All-American and the NCAA Division II Preseason Player of the Year for the Independent schools by Women's Division II Bulletin when the October 2005 issue was released.
Conner, a 5'11" center, returns to Head Coach Jodi Gault's line-up after averaging 13.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in helping lead the Lady Cats to a 21-6 overall record during the 2004-05 season. Her points and rebounds per game both ranked second on the team. Conner also finished last season ranked 24th in NCAA Division II in Free-Throw Percentage (84.9%) and 25th in Field Goal Percentage at 55.5%. In addition, Conner ended her junior season third on the team in blocked shots (14), fourth in assists (45) and fifth in steals (36).
As a team, Pitt Johnstown is ranked second behind Florida Gulf Coast among the Independent schools. The Lady Cats return four starters from last year's team that finished 21-6. Florida Gulf Coast also returns four starters from a team that was 21-9 a year ago.
Pitt Johnstown tips off the 2005-06 season against Glenville State (WV) College at the 2005 University of Findlay (OH) Tournament on November 18.
