Kristin Irwin Named Second Team WVIAC Volleyball; Katie Shadron Honorable Mention Choice

Lady Cat junior middle hitter Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) was named Women's Volleyball Second Team All-WVIAC, while senior defensive specialist Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) was an Honorable Mention selection when the teams were released on Thursday. Entering the WVIAC Tournament, Irwin led head coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cats in kills (256) and kills per game 2.29). In addition, Irwin paced Pitt-Johnstown in all of the blocking categories. Irwin collected team-highs of 45 block solos, 84 block assists, 129 total blocks and 1.15 blocks per game. Her 1.15 blocks per game rank 19th in NCAA Division II, while her .318 hitting percentage ranks her 68th in the country.
Shadron paced Pitt-Johnstown in digs (517) and digs per game (4.79) and was fifth on the team in service aces with 21. Nationally, Shadron ranks 33rd in digs per game at 4.79.
League regular season champion West Virginia State University dominated the ten-player All-WVIAC First Team with four selections after rolling to a perfect 15-0 record in conference action. The Jackets are represented on the top squad by libero Kristen Hager, outside hitter Christina Wichrowski, middle blocker Amanda Luedtke, and setter Jennifer Paswaters.
Other first team all-conference selections as voted upon by the league's 16 head coaches include: Halberstadt, Maria Broslawsky (WV Wesleyan), Amanda Check (Alderson-Broaddus), Jamilyn Decorte (Alderson-Broaddus), Camai Roberson (Glenville State), and Reigh Steban (Seton Hill).
Broslawsky, a Buckhannon native who leads the conference in hitting percentage and kills per set, joins Halberstadt as the only repeat selections from the 2007 All-WVIAC First Team.
University of Charleston's Charleston Katie Williams is the choice for Freshman of the Year, while Alderson-Broaddus' Carrie Bodkins was recognized by her peers as the WVIAC Coach of the Year.
