Gannon University bounced back from an opening set loss with three straight wins to deal the Lady Cat volleyball team a 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-15 loss in Friday's second round of the PSAC Crossover in Slippery Rock.Â
Kendall Mahony had 13 kills and
Cambria Wierman collected 12 kills and 17 digs to lead Pitt-Johnstown, now 10-6 overall and 6-5 in the PSAC.

The Lady Cats built an eight-point lead on Gannon, which came into the match with two losses on the year, before holding on for a 25-22 win in the opening set. Â Pitt-Johnstown broke open a two-point game with a 13-7 run to climb out to a 20-12 lead on a
Devan Orr service ace. The Golden Knights charged back to cut it to 21-20, but the Lady Cats held on for the three-point win on Wierman's kill.

After falling behind 7-2 to start the second set, Pitt-Johnstown clawed back to knot at 10 on a
Gabriell Carney kill, followed by a Gannon attack error. However, the Golden Knights answered with seven consecutive points and never let the Lady Cats get closer than five on their way to evening the match with a 25-17 victory.

In the third set, Pitt-Johnstown fell behind 13-8, before a 9-2 run put the Lady Cats in front by two. Back-to-back aces from
Delaney Roman tied it at 15, and a kill from Wierman made it 17-15. Pitt-Johnstown then held a 20-18 advantage, but Gannon scored seven of the next eight points to and went on to a 25-21 win.

Seven straight points in the fourth set erased an early deficit and gave Pitt-Johnstown an 8-5 lead. The Golden Knights regained control and outscored the Lady Cats 20-7 the rest of the way to secure the match with a 25-15 victory.

Mahony added a block solo and three block assists to go along with her 12 kills, while
Madeline George and Carney had six and five kills, respectively for Pitt-Johnstown.

Nikki Oakes had a team-high 19 set assists, and
Nicole Curran chipped-in 13 assists and 10 digs. The Lady Cats also got three service aces and 14 digs from
Devan Orr and four aces from Roman.

Maggie Desrosiers finished with a match-high 18 kills, and Hannah Kren had 15 kills to pace Gannon, which improved to 16-2 overall and 9-2 in the PSAC.

The Lady Cats travel to Edinboro to take on the Fighting Scots and Mercyhurst to close out the PSAC Crossover on Saturday, before traveling to West Liberty (WV) for a non-conference match on Wednesday. Pitt-Johnstown will return home to host PSAC matches against Millersville on October 17 at 7 p.m. and Shippensburg on October 18 at 1 p.m.
