Kendall Mahony had 16 kills to lead Pitt-Johnstown to the three-sets-to-one PSAC victory at Kutztown University and avenge an earlier loss to the Golden Bears, Saturday afternoon in Kutztown. The Lady Cats improved to 13-11 overall, and 9-8 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats opened the first set with a 7-5 lead, but the Golden Bears clawed back with two service aces from Aly York to go in front 9-8. A kill from
Madeline George tied at 9-9 but Kutztown was too strong and got a kill by Audrey Stringer to close out a 25-23 win.
In the second set, kills by
Delaney Roman and Mahony ended a 6-0 Pitt-Johnstown run to give the Lady Cats an 11-3 advantage. George's kill increased the lead to 16-6, and two straight kills from Roman, followed by a Mahoney service ace made it 20-10. The Lady Cats then got a service ace by
Nikki Oakes to seal a 25-21 victory.
Pitt-Johnstown scored five straight points to build a 10-4 lead in the third set. The Lady Cats pushed it out to 19-7, before a
Cambria Wierman kill and a service ace allowed the Lady Cats to cruise to a 25-14 set victory.
After the Golden Bears took a lead at 7-5 in the fourth set, Pitt-Johnstown knotted it at 12 on another kill from Wierman. The Lady Cats took control and took a 17-12 lead and went on to put the match away with a 25-19 win.
Wierman collected 13 kills and 16 digs, while Roman added 11 kills and 11 digs for the Lady Cats. Oakes gathered 31 assists, and
Nicole Curran added 18 assists. Manhony had eight service aces, while
Devan Orr collected five service aces and 31 digs.
Audrey Stringer had 13 kills to lead the Golden Bears, now 11-14 overall, and 5-12 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats return home for four straight matches beginning with a conference match against Lock Haven on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a non-conference match against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
