Kendall Mahony had 14 kills to help Pitt-Johnstown extend its winning streak to five straight matches with a 25-11, 25-9, 25-11 PSAC sweep over Cheyney University, Friday night in the Sports Center. The Lady Cats improved to 16-11 overall and 11-8 in conference-play.
The Lady Cats ran out to a 12-2 lead in the first set on
Nicole Curran's service ace, then extended it to 20-7 on a
Delaney Roman kill followed by a Cheyney attack error. The Lady Wolves scored the next four to cut it to 21-11 but Pitt-Johnstown scored four straight to secure the 25-11 win.
Cheyney kept the second set close for a while. However, Pitt-Johnstown used a 14-2 run, capped by a Mahony kill and another Lady Wolves attack error, to break open a one point set and build a 20-7 lead. Mahony added two more kills and
Logan McIntosh collected a service ace as Pitt-Johnstown cruised to a 25-9 win.
Pitt-Johnstown closed out the sweep with a 25–11 win in the third set. The Lady Cats had an early 7-2 lead, followed by a six point run to extend the lead 15-5. Cheyney battled back with a kill by Kilondra Davis to put the score at 17-9, before a
Cambria Wierman kill put the Lady Cats ahead 20-9.
Madeline George closed out the 25-11 set win with a kill.
Roman had ten kills and five digs, while George added 11 kills. Wierman gathered six kills, three service aces and eight digs.
Nikki Oakes collected 27 set assists, two service aces and five digs, Curran had 16 assists and three digs.
Breanna Joseph had nine kills to lead the Lady Wolves with the loss, which dropped Cheyney to 2-26 overall and 0-19 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats wrap up the 2014 home schedule with senior day against West Chester University on Saturday at 1pm in the Sports Center before traveling to Shepherd (WV) University for a non-conference match on Tuesday.
