Box Score
The Mountain Cats got a career-high 21 points from
A.J. Leahey, shot nearly 80% from 3-point range, and built a 22-point first half lead on their way to a 103-79 PSAC Crossover victory over Bloomsburg University, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown, which hit 11 of its 14 3-pointers,  bounced back from Tuesday's loss to Lock Haven and improved to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC Western Division.
Â
It didn't take Pitt-Johnstown to get rolling. Two consecutive Leahey 3-pointers and a
Matt Palo lay-up put the Mountain Cats in front by nine, before
Rasaun Mosley's bucket at 11:19 got the lead into double digits at 25-24.
Â
Ian Vescovi then scored nine consecutive Pitt-Johnstown points that extended the lead to 39-22. Â
Rich Audu then connected on a 3-pointer from the corner with four minutes left to give the Mountain Cats their largest lead of the first half at 47-25.
Â
Bloomsburg cut the deficit to 13 on a Saige Spece 3-pointer with 23 seconds remaining, but
Dale Clancy's lay-up with time winding down gave the Mountain Cats a 55-40 halftime advantage.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown never let the Huskies any closer. Palo's bucket four minutes into the second half made it a 23-point lead, and short jumpers from
Nate Snodgrass and
Jake Laravie got it out to 33 at 85-52 with 11:32 to play.
Â
The Mountain Cat lead ballooned to as many at 34 at 88-54 on a 3-pointer from
Levi Masua midway through the half, and Pitt-Johnstown cruised to the 24-point victory.
Â
Leahey's 21 points and eight rebounds and Vescovi's 16 points and game-high nine rebounds led seven Mountain Cats who scored in double figures. Palo finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Audu and Laravie had 11 points apiece, and Snodgrass and Clancy had 10 points apiece.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown, which shot 72.4% in the second half, ended the night shooting 60.6% (40-66), including 11-14 from 3-point range. The Mountain Cats were also 12-17 from the free-throw line. Bloomsburg was held to 45.2% (28-62) from the floor, but were just 7-24 from behind the 3-point line. The Huskies were 16-21 from the charity stripe.
Â
Christian Mortellite's game-high 23 points, and Charles Haigler's 15 points led the way for Bloomsburg, which dropped it third straight game and slipped to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC East.
Â
The Mountain Cats close out the first semester with a PSAC Crossover game at East Stroudsburg on Saturday. After breaking for the holiday season, Pitt-Johnstown will travel to PSAC games at West Chester on January 3 and Cheyney on December 4, before hosting a conference doubleheader with the Lady Cats against Millersville on January 7.Â
