The Lady Cat volleyball team bounced back from Friday's tough five-set loss to deal East Stroudsburg University a 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 loss, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
Cambria Wierman's nine kills and 11 digs led Pitt-Johnstown, now 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC.
In the opening set, the Lady Cats used an 8-2 run, capped by a ball handling error by East Stroudsburg's Maddi Hutchinson, to build a 15-5 lead. The Warriors narrowed it to 18-12, but Pitt-Johnstown, who got five kills in the set from
Delaney Roman, outscored East Stroudsburg, 7-1 the rest of the way to take the set, 25-13.
Seven errors by the Warriors, followed by a service ace from Wierman to start the second set gave Pitt-Johnstown a commanding 9-1 advantage. The Lady Cats never looked back and closed out the 25-16 win with
Kendall Mahony's kill.
In the final set, The Warriors went in front, 4-3 early, but Pitt-Johnstown quickly regained control and turned the deficit into 15-7 advantage behind five kills from Wierman. The Lady Cats extended it to 18-8 on a service ace and a kill from Mahony, before cruising to the 25-18 win.
Mahony finished with seven kills, a block solo and three block assists, while
Gabriell Carney and Roman each had six kills.
Nikki Oakes led the lady Cats with 16 set assists, and
Nicole Curran added 13 assists.
Devan Orr's 14 digs led the way for Pitt-Johnstown.
Abby Welch paced East Stroudsburg, now 4-10 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC, with seven kills.
Pitt-Johnstown begins a stretch of eight straight road matches at Lock Haven on Tuesday. The Lady Cats will play their next home match on October 17 when Millersville visits the Sports Center for a PSAC match at 7 p.m.
