A.J. Leahey hit seven 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 27 points to help the Mountain Cats knock-off PSAC-West Leading Gannon, 65-57, Wednesday night in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown made it three straight wins and improved to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in conference-play.

Leahey started fast and accounted for 19 of the Mountain Cats' 32 first half points. After Pitt-Johnstown fell behind by three early, Leahey connected on two straight 3-pointers that put the Mountain Cats back on top and ignited a 21-9 Pitt-Johnstown run.

Leahey's fifth 3-pointer of the first half, followed by one from
Nate Snodgrass closed out the run and put the Mountain Cats in front 30-18 with 3:03 left.

Gannon was able to claw back to cut it to 32-25 at the half on a jumper from Adam Blazek.

The Golden Knights came out and outscored Pitt-Johnstown 12-7 over the first five minutes of the second hall to narrow it to 39-37 on two Blazek free-throws, but the Mountain Cats never let Gannon get any closer.

Pitt-Johnstown scored the next eight points, including a bucket from
Matt Palo, to rebuild the lead to 10.

The Mountain Cats maintained at least a five point lead until Girbran Smith knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:17 to play to make it 57-54, but Palo and Snodgrass combined to hit eight consecutive free-throws in the final 44 seconds that helped Pitt-Johnstown close out the victory.

Leahey's 27 points (7-11 3FGs) and five rebounds led Pitt-Johnstown. Palo had 13 points and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, while Snodgrass finished with nine points and four rebounds. The Mountain Cats also got eight points and 10 rebounds from
Ian Vescovi in the win.

The Mountain Cats shot 40.4% (19-47) from the field, 9-16 from 3-point range. Pitt-Johnstown also got it done from the free-throw line, hitting 18-19. Gannon was held to just 36.5% (23-63) shooting for the game. The Golden Knights were 6-21 from behind the 3-point line and 5-6 from the charity stripe.

Smith had 18 points, and A'Darius Porter chipped-in 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to pace the Golden Knights, who slipped to 11-6 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC.

The Mountain Cats travel to PSAC games at Mercyhurst on Saturday and at IUP next Wednesday, before returning home to host a conference doubleheader with the Lady Cats against Edinboro on January 24 in the Sports Center.
