A.J. Leahey had 19 points and
Nate Snodgrass added 17 points for the Mountain Cats, but Indiana University (PA) broke open a seven-point second half lead and dealt Pitt-Johnstown an 88-73 PSAC loss, Wednesday night in Indiana. The Mountain Cats slipped to 9-8 overall and 6-7 in the conference.

IUP opened with a quick 7-0 run, before Leahey knocked down a 3-pointer to get the Mountain Cats on the scoreboard.

The Crimson Hawks extended it to 15-8 on Brandon Norfleet's 3-pointer at 13:34, but the Mountain Cats countered with an 8-2 spurt, capped by a Snodgrass 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 17-16 with 11:46 left in the half.

However, IUP outscored Pitt-Johnstown 21-11 the rest of the way to build an 11-point halftime advantage.

Tevin Hanner scored five straight points to give the Crimson Hawks' their largest lead of the half at 34-21, before Snodgrass connected on two free-throws at 2:31 to get it down to 34-26.

After the Crimson Hawks pushed it back out to a 15-point lead to start the second half, Pitt-Johnstown was able to narrow it to seven on two occasions, with the last coming on Leahey's 3-pointer that made it 64-57 with 9:58 to play.

Then, with IUP in front by nine just over a minute later, the Crimson Hawks used three consecutive 3-pointers from Norfleet, Shawn Dyer, and Jeremy Jeffers, to extend it to 78-60 at the 5:23 mark.

The Mountain Cats were never able to recover, and suffered the 15-point loss.

Leahey finished with 19 points and five rebounds, and Snodgrass chipped in 17 pints to lead Pitt-Johnstown.Â
Ian Vescovi had 10 points, while
Matt Palo and
Rich Audu collected nine and eight points, respectively for the Mountain Cats.

Ian Vescovi currently ranks 10
th place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 574 rebounds.Â
Vescovi is also 76 points shy of becoming Pitt-Johnstown's 26
th 1,000-point scorer.

Pitt-Johnstown and IUP both shot 50% from the field. The Mountain Cats hit 8-of-16 of their 3-pointers, and were 13-18 from the free-throw line. The Crimson Hawks, who out-rebounded Pitt-Johnstown 38-21, were 10-18 from behind the 3-point line and 14-16 from the charity stripe.

Devante Chance scored 19 points, and Jeffers tallied 18 points to lead five IUP players who scored in double figures.

With the victory, IUP improved to 16-3 overall and 10-3 in the PSAC.

The Mountain Cats host a conference doubleheader with the Lady Cats against Edinboro on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to Clarion for another conference game next Wednesday.Â
