A pair of goals netted by Katrina Giantsopoulos gave Davis & Elkins (WV) College a 2-1 edge over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team to capture a nonconference victory, Tuesday afternoon in Johnstown. The Lady Cats fell to 0-12-1 overall and remain 0-11-1 in conference play.
Nearing the end of the first half, Giantsopoulos chipped the ball from inside the box past Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Leigh Appolonia to put the Senators on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute.
Giantsopoulos struck again in the 68
th minute scoring after breaking away with a through ball from Kaitlyn Buoni, improving the score to 2-0.
Pitt-Johnstown answered with a goal in the 79th minute from
Jessica Getz after rebounding the ball from
Kaitlyn Eckley and
Rachel Fleming and putting it past Senator keeper Samantha Wehri to keep the Lady Cats in the game.
The Lady Cats continued to battle with Davis and Elkins but were unable to push ahead as the Senators secured a 2-1 victory, improving their record to 10-2-0 overall.
Appolonia suffered the loss in goal for the Lady Cats after seeing 16 shots and making six saves.
Wehri earned the win in goal for the Senators after facing four Pitt-Johnstown shots and making one save.
The Lady Cats travel to Bloomsburg University on Saturday for a PSAC match at 7:30 p.m., before returning home to host a conference match against California University (PA) on October 21 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
