Lindsey Green and Mani Brueckner each netted a goal in the second half to give Gannon University, ranked first in the country, a 2-0 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team Saturday in Erie. The Lady Cats sunk to 0-15-1 overall and 0-14-1 in conference-play.
As both teams battled, Gannon held possession of the ball for much of the first half but was unable to get a shot past Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Leigh Appolonia, resulting in a scoreless first half.
In the 55
th minute, Lindsey Green put the Golden Knights on the board after heading the ball into the back of the net off of a cross by Becca Albert and Amanda Gallant from the left side of the field.
The Lady Cats were unable to pull ahead, as Gannon improved to a 2-0 lead with a goal from Mani Brueckner in the 64
th minute. Brueckner headed the ball past Appolonia off of a crossed pass from Sammy Valloud to secure the win for the Golden Knights.
Appolonia suffered the loss in goal after facing 34 shots and making 18 saves.
Shannon Differ recorded the shutout in goal for Gannon after facing seven shots from Pitt-Johnstown and making three saves. Differ was replaced by Kayla Wysocki in the 78th minute who closed out the game in goal. Gannon is now 16-0 overall and 14-0 in the PSAC.Â
The Lady Cats return to host their final home conference match against Kutztown University on Tuesday before closing their season with a nonconference match on October 31 at Goldey-Beacom (DE) College.
