With 2 goals, Dara Demich led Slippery Rock to a 4-0 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Wednesday afternoon in Slippery Rock. The Lady Cats slipped to 0-11-0 overall and 0-11-0 in conference-play.
Allison Harbart opened scoring for Slippery Rock early in the first half after sending the ball past Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Leigh Appolonia off of a penalty kick in the 17
th minute.
Less than a minute later, Haley Burkholder crossed the ball in from outside of the box to Dara Demich who finished with a goal, giving Slippery Rock an early 2-0 lead over the Lady Cats. In the 23
rd minute, Demich stuck again netting the ball off of a cross from Crysta Ganter.
Skye Kramer rebounded the ball off of a shot from Taylor Sweeny that was deflected by Appolonia, scoring in the final seconds of the first half.
Pitt-Johnstown was unable answer back as Slippery Rock maintained momentum throughout a scoreless second half to hold onto a 4-0 lead for the win.
Appolonia suffered the loss in goal for the Lady Cats after seeing 28 shots and making seven saves.
Charlotte Elrod recorded the shutout in goal for Slippery Rock after facing six shots from Pitt-Johnstown and making one save. Elrod was replaced by Kylie Downs in the 72
nd minute who closed out the game in goal. Slippery Rock is now 7-4 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats return home to host a conference match against Lock Haven University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by a non-conference match against Davis & Elkins (WV) College on October 13 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Â Â Â
