Nate Snodgrass had a game-high 24 points and Pitt-Johnstown won its first game of the season, 90-85, over Urbana (OH) University, in the Mountain Cats' finale of the 2015 S&T Bank Atlantic Region Challenge at Indiana University (PA). Pitt-Johnstown advances to 1-1 overall with the win.

Urbana started the game hot with a 6-0 run a minute and a half into the game after a layup by Austin Adams. Snodgrass was able to answer with a layup of his own 22 seconds later.

The Blue Knights were able to build their lead to 12-4 at the 16:20 first half mark, but the Mountain Cats were able to rebound and score nine of the next 10 points, tying the game at 13-13.

Pitt-Johnstown was able to gain the lead with 13:36 remaining in the first on a dunk by Olando King with an assist from Snodgrass. The Mountain Cats never looked back for the rest of the game.

Urbana was able to tie the game at 15 points, however, thanks to a jumper from Carlos Jackson with 13:26 left in the first.

The Mountain Cats eventually built a nine-point lead with 5:19 in the half remaining after
Jake Laravie sunk a layup to give his team a 32-23 advantage.

Urbana got back within two points when Jahmere Howze produced a layup, finishing up a 10-3 run for the Blue Knights with 2:34 left until halftime.

Laravie drained a jumper with a second remaining to give the Mountain Cats a 43-37 heading into the last half. He finished with 12 points in just 16 minutes of playing time.

Snodgrass hit a jumper 3:51 into the second half to extend the Mountain Cats' advantage to 10 points, leading 51-41. Snodgrass drained another jumper three minutes later to stretch the lead to 11.

The Blue Knights went on a 16-6 run and made the score 62-61, still trailing with 7:52 left when Mike Newton successfully made a jump shot. That was the closest Urbana got to overcoming its deficit.

The Mountain Cats held Urbana off for the rest of the game to secure the victory largely due to several free throws made by Snodgrass along with
Dale Clancy, Issac Vescovi and
A.J. Leahey.

Leahey produced 19 points and six rebounds, and
Dale Clancy added 16 points, six assists and three steals while Vescovi chipped in with five points and four rebounds.

Howze produced a double-double and lead the Blue Knights, who dropped to 0-2 overall, with a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. Newton contributed 22 points and six rebounds as well.

Urbana outshot Pitt-Johnstown in field goal and three-point percentage, but the Mountain Cats had a better free throw percentage. Pitt-Johnstown was able to obtain 22 points off the bench and outscored the Blue Knight bench by 16 points.

The Mountain Cats are to return home for three straight games against PSAC foes, beginning with a doubleheader with the Lady Cats Wednesday night against California University (Pa.).Â
