Lady Cats knock off No. 25 West Chester, 69-64

Johnstown, Pa.

Box Score 3132Anna Hollen led Pitt-Johnstown to victory with a 15-point performance as the Lady Cats upended No. 25 West Chester University in a PSAC matchup, 69-64 Saturday inside the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center.

Hollen also added eight rebounds and three assists while both Olivia McCabe and Laurel O'Barto produced 12 points each. The team advances to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win.

McCabe was able to record a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) despite leaving the game with a leg injury less than a minute before halftime, but later returned to help the Lady Cats earn the win.

The game started out mostly even between the two teams as they traded points early in the first period. O'Barto tied the game at 10 points when she made a three-pointer for the Lady Cats with 5:08 left in the opening quarter.

Pitt-Johnstown scored five more points consecutively after O'Barto hit a layup and assisted a three-point shot from Hollen, putting the Lady Cats up 15-10, forcing the Golden Rams first-year head coach Kiera Wooden to call a timeout with 4:13 left in the first.

The Lady Cats ran out to an even bigger lead when O'Barto drained yet another shot from beyond the arc that put her team up by 10 points for the first time in the game. Leah Hansen followed the shot with a layup of her own to give Pitt-Johnstown a 24-12 advantage.

West Chester was able to score six straight points to end the quarter, but still trailed 24-18. They were able to get within for once the second quarter started when Camden Boehner made a jumper with 9:23 left, but Pitt-Johnstown was able to regain a 10-point edge with Nicole Corcoran was fouled and made a free-throw.

The Lady Cats received a setback when their center McCabe fell to the ground with an apparent left leg injury after committing a foul. The team has able to keep their edge going into halftime despite the injury, especially when Kayla DeCriscio hit a jumper as time ran out off of an assist from Hollen to put Pitt-Johnstown ahead, 45-35 at halftime.

McCabe was able to return in the second half and the team was able to build a 13-point lead with 3:56 on the clock in the third quarter when Hollen made a layup. West Chester, however, was able to cut the deficit to seven when Brittany Sicinski made a layup off of an assist from Boehner.

The quarter ended with the Golden Rams trailing, 57-50, but they were able to get within one point of the lead on a layup from Porscha Speller with 6:38 remaining in the game.

Speller missed a layup moments later that would have given the lead to the Golden Rams. Agnese Aramina then grabbed the rebound that led to a layup from Hollen to give Pitt-Johnstown a 63-60 lead with 6:01 left.

West Chester got within a point with 40 seconds left after Kuntz hit two free-throws, but Hansen returned the favor with two free-throws made after being fouled by Sicinski with 13 seconds remaining to put Pitt-Johnstown up 67-64.

Although they shot 100% as a team from the free-throw line, the Golden Rams struggled from beyond the arc (3-for-20) and field goal percentage (33.8%). Dallas Ely was able to get an open look from three-point territory for West Chester, but her shot rolled in-and-out of the basket as McCabe secured the rebound and the win for the Lady Cats.

McCabe was then fouled and made both free-throws to help capture Pitt-Johnstown's second win of the season.

Sicinski had a game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and four assists as West Chester dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference competition with the loss.

The Lady Cats are to host a PSAC game against Cheyney University Sunday at 1 p.m., before hosting a non-conference game against Salem (W. Va.) International University Tuesday at 5:30pm.
