Isaac Vescovi had career highs of 20 points and six rebounds as Pitt-Johnstown defeated American International College (Springfield, Mass.) 94-85 in the Mountain Cats' first of two games at the 2015 Indiana Regional Medical Center Classic Friday at the Kovalchick Athletic Complex in Indiana, Pa.

Vescovi made eight of nine shots from the field to help UPJ advance to 4-2 overall with the non-conference victory as five Mountain Cats scored 13 points or more.

A.J. Leahey added 18 points, six rebounds and four assists while
Dale Clancy and
Jake Laravie both contributed 16 points each.
Nate Snodgrass tallied 13 points, five assists and three steals.

The Yellow Jackets started the game scoring the first five points after a three-pointer from Bruce Spruell and a layup from Trahmier Burrell. Pitt-Johnstown scored ten unanswered points to own a 10-5 lead when
Isaac Vescovi made a layup with 15:52 left in the half.

After a free throw from Burrell to cut the Mountain Cats led to four, UPJ went on an 11-2 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from
Dale Clancy off an assist from Vescovi at the 12:44 first half mark to go up 21-8.

American International was able to diminish Pitt-Johnstown's lead to 23-17, but the Mountain Cats were able to keep a sizeable advantage throughout the first half. They outscored the Yellow Jackets 25-20 throughout the remaining minutes of the half to build a 48-37 at halftime.

Not much changed in the second half even though the Yellow Jackets outscored UPJ, but only by two points, which was only enough to cut the eventually point differential from 11 to nine. Fourteen second half points from Vescovi and 10 points from Clancy pushed Pitt-Johnstown to its fourth win of the season.

Burrell led American International with 15 points and seven rebounds and Oscar Assie added 12 points and five rebounds as the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-4 overall with the loss.

The Mountain Cats are to play their next six games on the road including their finale at the IUP Indiana Regional Medical Center Classic against the University of the Sciences Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown's next home game is to be against Shippensburg University Jan. 6 as part of a PSAC doubleheader with the Lady Cats.Â
