Men's Basketball loses on the road to Kutztown in OT thriller, 90-84

Box Score 3193Both Dale Clancy and A.J. Leahey led Pitt-Johnstown with 23 points each, but it was not enough for the Mountain Cats to overcome Kutztown University in a PSAC crossover matchup, and were defeated 90-84, in overtime, Friday night at the Keystone Arena in Kutztown.
 
Despite a late second half resurgence, UPJ falls to 6-3 overall, 3-2 in conference play with the loss.
 
The game started out even halfway through the first half after Dom Keyes drained a layup for the Mountain Cats to tie the game at 17-17 with 9:51 remaining. Kutztown was able to break with a 17-5 run in the next 5:21 to garner a 32-22 advantage.
 
Keyes finished the game with eight points in ten minutes of play.
 
Nate Snodgrass made a jumper with 21 seconds left in the half to put Pitt-Johnstown within five points heading into the second half. The jumper also capped off a 10-5 Mountain Cat run, making the score 37-32 Kutztown at halftime.
 
Snodgrass ended the game with 16 points and four assists.
 
The Golden Bears held on to the lead until 2:11 left in the game when Leahey hit a three-pointer to give UPJ the advantage, 71-70.
 
Leahey also contributed nine rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Mountain Cats' loss.
 
Kutztown did not have the lead for the rest of regulation, but were able to tie the game at 78-78 when Ethan Ridgeway made two free throws after being fouled by Clancy with nine seconds left in the second half.
 
The lead changed four time in the first and five times in the second half, but in overtime, it was all Kutztown. Clancy committed another foul 20 seconds into extra time and as a result, Anthony Lee made both free throws for Kutztown.
 
Along with Clancy's 23 points, he also added six assists.
 
Josh Johnson then hit a jumper with 4:04 to put the Golden Bears ahead, 82-78. Pitt Johnstown was able to get within a point when Snodgrass made a jumper to make the score 85-84 Kutztown with 1:09 left, but the Golden Bears scored the last five points of the game. Johnson hit another jumper for the Golden Bears with 12 seconds left in overtime to finish off the Mountain Cats.
 
Kutztown advances to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference competition largely due to Johnson's game-leading 25 points and 14 rebounds as well as Lee's 21 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Mountain Cats are to continue their road game stretch with games at Mansfield University Saturday and Gannon University Dec. 19.  Pitt-Johnstown is to play its next home game on January 6 against Shippensburg University as part of a PSAC doubleheader with the Lady Cats.
