Ian Vescovi scored 10 points to become Pitt-Johnstown's 26
th 1,000-point scorer, but Gannon raced out to a 24-point first half lead and never looked back in a 66-36 PSAC victory over the Mountain Cats, Saturday afternoon in Erie. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in conference-play.

Vescovi, who needed nine points to reach the milestone, got a lay-up with 9:09 to play to record his 1,000
th point. Vescovi stands in 26
th-place on the Mountain Cat scoring list with 1,001 points. He is 22 points shy of Josue Nieves (1997-00) for 25
th-place on the list.

Gannon came out of the gates fast and used 68% shooting to build a 24-point first half advantage.

The Golden Knights opened-up an 8-0 lead on Jean Yves Toupane's lay-up on free throw, before
Rich Audu connected on a 3-pointer to get the Mountain Cats on the board.

Gannon then got seven straight points and from A'Darius Porter and a jumper from Matthew Dogan to increase it to 23-6 at 9:16.

Vescovi ended the run with a bucket in the paint for Pitt-Johnstown, but the Golden Knights weren't done. Adam Blazek hit a 3-pointer to extend it to 20, before
Dale Clancy and
Matt Palo followed with baskets for the Mountain Cats.

Two more Blazek 3-pointers built it to 36-12 with 3:31 left in the half, but Pitt-Johnstown got a 3-pointer from Palo and a basket from
Nate Snodgrass off of a Gannon turnover as time expired to cut the deficit to 41-21 at the half.

The Golden Knights started the second half on a 9-2 run, capped by a Rich Austin bucket at 13:29, to increase it to 50-23.

With the Mountain Cats trailing by 28, Vescovi reached the 1,000-point plateau with a lay-up at 9:09.

However, Gannon's lead ballooned to as many as 32 with 2:56 remaining on their way to the lopsided victory.

Vescovi's 10 points and six rebounds paced Pitt-Johnstown.Â
A.J. Leahey and Audu each scored five points, while Palo chipped-in four points.

Vescovi currently ranks sixth on the Mountain Cat All-Time Rebounding List with 628 rebounds. Vescovi is also 26
th on the all-time scoring list with 1,001 career points.

The Mountain Cats shot a season low 30.6% (11-36), including just 2-10 from 3-point range and 12-20 from the free-throw line. Gannon ended the day shooting 51.1% (24-47) from the field, 5-13 from behind the 3-point line, and 13-17 from the charity stripe.

Blazek finished with a game-high 16 points and Thomas-Edwards added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead four Golden Knights who scored in double figures.

With the win, Gannon made it six wins in its last seven games and improved to 17-8 overall and 16-4 in the PSAC.

The Mountain Cats host conference doubleheaders with the Lady Cats against Mercyhurst on Wednesday Sports Center and Indiana (PA) for Senior Day on Saturday.
