#5 Mercyhurst Downs #16 Wrestlers 24-15 in Dual Meet Finale

2741A victory at fifth-ranked Mercyhurst on Saturday would give the Mountain Cats a share of the 2014-15 PSAC Division II Dual Meet Championship.  However, the Lakers broke open a two-point match with wins in three of the final four bouts to defeat Pitt-Johnstown 24-15 and claim the PSAC dual meet crown.  The Mountain Cats finished the regular season with a 12-2 overall dual meet record and a 5-2 mark in the PSAC.
 
Mercyhurst got things started with a narrow 1-0 decision by fourth-ranked Willie Bohince over Evan Link at 125 lbs., but the Mountain Cats came right back with two straight victories to take the lead.
 
At 133 lbs., Pitt-Johnstown's Corey Bush scored a 4-2 win over Ryan Bohince, and sixth-ranked Sam Hanau dealt Kody Young a 7-4 loss at 141 lbs. to put the Mountain Cats in front 6-3.
 
Mercyhurst answered with major decisions at 149 and 157 lbs.  In a battle of cousins, seventh-ranked Jeremy Landowski dealt Pitt-Johnstown's Cole Landowski a 15-2 loss, and sixth-ranked Francis Mizia shut out Steve Edwards 13-0 that gave the Lakers an 11-6 advantage.
 
Pitt-Johnstown cut it to 11-9 at 165 lbs. when seventh-ranked Tyler Reinhart upset fourth-ranked Angelo Bortoluzzi, 5-4, but the Lakers followed with a 9-1 major decision by fifth-ranked August Mizia over John Blankenship at 174 lbs to start a streak of three straight wins and increase their lead to 15-9.
 
Mercyhurst then sealed the win at 184 lbs.  Dakota DesLauriers quickly pinned Nick Penatzer in the first period to make it 21-9 and put the match out of reach with just two bouts remaining.
 
At 197 lbs., Brian Beattie held off Forest Tuttle 4-0 to make it three straight Mercyhurst wins, before Pitt-Johnstown's D.J. Sims received a forfeit at 285 lbs. to set the final at 24-15.
 
The Lakers wrapped-up the dual meet schedule with 13 straight victories and their third consecutive PSAC Dual Meet title.  Mercyhurst ended with an 18-1 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the PSAC.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to the 2015 Super Region I Tournament at West Liberty (WV) University on February 27-28 before closing out the season at the Division II National Championships in St. Louis, MO on March 13-14.
