Â
After
Ian Vescovi's basket in the paint tied it at eight, Edinboro, which shot nearly 65% in the first half, jumped on the Mountain Cats for a 34-14 run over the next 12 minutes to build a 20-point lead.
Â
Sheldon Brogden's 3-pointer, followed by a Casey Baker lay-up, capped a 16-6 Edinboro spurt that put the Fighting Scots in front 24-14, before Leahey ended it with a 3-pointer for Pitt-Johnstown.
Â
Edinboro answered right back by outscoring the Mountain Cats 18-5 to build its lead to 42-22 and close the big run on Sam Sealy-James' dunk at 3:04.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown then got two more of Leahey's 11 first half points and a 3-pointer from
Jake Laravie to narrow its deficit to 46-40 at the half.
Â
Two straight baskets from
Nate Snodgrass to start the second half and a
Dale Clancy free-throw at 17:13 got the Mountain Cats to within 11, but the Fighting Scots rebuilt their lead to 56-39 after Jaymon Mason knocked down a pair of free-throws and Henri Wade-Chatman hit a 3-pointer three minutes later.
Â
Pitt-Johnstown clawed back to within 11 twice in the next two minutes, with the second coming on
Dale Clancy's jumper with 12 minutes remaining, but once again, the Fighting Scots responded and quickly pushed it back 18 at 66-48 on Wade-Chatman's dunk.
Â
The Mountain cats continued to battle and cut it to a dozen on a
Matt Palo free-throw and Vescovi's short jumper at 8:07.
Â
However, the Fighting Scots would not allow Pitt-Johnstown to get any closer. Edinboro rebuilt the lead to 16, and the Mountain Cats sliced it to 12 on three other occasions, before the Fighting Scots went on to the 14-point victory.
