Erminio's 22 Kills Lead Volleyball to Win Over Cedarville

2994The Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team took advantage of 22 kills from Marissa Erminio and bounced back to win three straight sets to defeat Cecarville (OH) University 3-sets-to-1 in Friday's first round of the University of Findlay (OH) TownPlace Suites Classic.  The Lady Cats improved to 4-0.
 
After suffering a 25-19 loss in the opening set, Pitt-Johnstown stormed back with 25-22, 25-13, and 25-14 wins to end the match.
 
Pitt-Johnstown erased an early two-point deficit to go in front 7-6 on Allison Mondorff's kill.  The set see-sawed back-and-forth until Cedarville broke a 13-13 tie with a 12-6 run to close out the set.  A kill by Rachel Krikke put Cedarville up 21-16, before Krissy Pratt's kill gave Cedarville the 25-19 win.
 
The Lady Cats opened the second set on an 8-1 run, including a pair of service aces from Devan Orr and two kills from Marissa Erminio that gave Pitt-Johnstown a 5-0 lead to start.  The Yellow Jackets answered right back with a 10-3 spurt of their own to tie it at 11 on a Faith Ferris kill.  Pitt-Johnstown recovered and used kills from Larissa Swank and Cambria Wierman to rebuild the lead to 20-16 and held on for the 25-22 victory.
 
Pitt-Johnstown started fast again.  This time the Lady Cats opened-up a 10-5 lead, but Cedarville clawed back to with five straight points to knot it at 10 on Pratt kill.  However, Pitt-Johnstown went on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 15-3 the rest of the way to seal the 25-13 win.
 
It was all Pitt-Johnstown to finish.  Erminio collected five more of her 22 kills early in the third set to give Pitt-Johnstown an 18-8 advantage.  Jessica Dillon's ace increased it to 23-10, and Delaney Roman's ace closed it out at 25-14.
 
Along with Erminio, Wierman had nine kills, a pair of service aces, and 10 digs, while Kendall Mahony chipped-in seven kills for the Lady Cats.
 
Pitt-Johnstown also got 22 set assists from Mondorff and 19 assists from Dillon.  Orr finished with a match-high 20 digs.
 
Pratt's 12 kills and Abby Shelton's 10 kills led the way for Cedarville, which dropped to 2-4.
