Casey Rightmyer's goal in the 14
th minute led the Shippensburg Raiders to a 1-0 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team Tuesday night in Shippensburg. The Lady Cats fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference-play.
After gaining possession of the ball early in the first half, the Raiders took the lead after Rightmyer gathered a loose ball in the box, sneaking through a crowd of players to send the ball past Pitt-Johnstown keeper
Leigh Appolonia.
Coming off of a 1-0 deficit at the half,
Jessica Getz opened with one of multiple scoring opportunities for the Lady Cats, but none could get past Raiders Keeper Leah Roy.
Pitt-Johnstown was unable to strike back resulting in a scoreless second half. The Raiders maintained momentum to claim the win with a 1-0 victory.
Appolonia suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after seeing 24 shots and making 10 saves.
Leah Roy earned the shutout win for the Raiders after having to make just two saves in goal against the Lady Cats. Shippensburg is now 2-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats host a PSAC match against Mansfield University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., followed by another home PSAC match against Millersville University on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. before traveling to Indiana University (PA) for a non-conference match Saturday September 26.
