An overtime goal from Kierstin Zerbe led the Crimson Hawks to a 2-1 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon in Indiana. The Lady Cats slipped to 0-8-0 overall and 0-8-0 in conference-play.
Nearly halfway through the first half, Jenny Vietmeier put Indiana University (PA) on the board with a goal in the 25
th minute assisted by Lexie Palluconi, leading the Crimson Hawks to a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Lady Cats answered in the 72
nd minute with a goal from
Kim Bonnett to keep Pitt-Johnstown in play and tie the game 1-1, ending regulation time.
After a battle between both teams during the first few minutes of extra play, Pitt-Johnstown was unable to get the ball in the net before Kiersten Zerbe scored the game-winning goal in the 95
th minute for IUP.
Off of a breakaway ball, Zerbe shot the ball to the back of the net after forcing Lady Cat keeper
Leigh Appolonia out of the box, securing a 2-1 win for the Crimson Hawks. Â
Appolonia suffered the loss in goal for Pitt-Johnstown after seeing 14 shots and making two saves.
Crimson Hawk keeper Jessica Printz earned the win in goal for IUP after facing six shots from Pitt-Johnstown and making one save. IUP is now 4-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC.
The Lady Cats travel to Edinboro University for a PSAC match on Tuesday September 29 at 6 p.m., before returning home to host a conference match against Mercyhurst University on October 3 at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Â
