Lady Cats Fall Behind Early, Fall 72-50 at Millersville

3131Millersville used a pair of first half runs to build a 19-point advantage on its way to handing the Lady Cats a 72-50 PSAC Crossover loss, Sunday afternoon in Millersville.  Jasmine Harper's game-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds led Pitt-Johnstown, which dropped its third straight game and fell to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in conference-play.
 
Millersville raced out to an early double-digit lead and held the Lady Cats to just 23 first half points.  Celeste Robinson's basket four minutes into the game put Millersville in front 10-4, before the Lady Cats cut it to 14-10 two minutes later on Jasmine Harper's lay-up.
 
The Marauders went on to close out the first quarter with an 8-1 run to build an 11-point advantage.  Two straight buckets from Celeste Robinson increased it 18-10, and a jumper from Janelle Robinson made it 22-10.
 
Pitt-Johnstown got a free-throw from Ana Hollen late in the quarter, and Kayla DeCriscio opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to get the Lady Cats to within eight.
 
However, Millersville countered with a 14-2 spurt over the next six minutes to extend the lead to 36-17 on Alex Stam's 3-pointer at 2:56.
 
The Lady Cats tried to get back in it and got six straight points from Harper to narrow the gap to 38-23 at the halftime break.
 
It was more of the same for Pitt-Johnstown in the second half.  The Marauders outscored the Lady Cats 11-2 begin the third quarter to push their lead to 49-25 on Alayah Hall's conventional 3-point play at the 6:12 mark.
 
Pitt-Johnstown continued to battle and countered with a 14-3 run of its own.  Olivia Rizzo's 3-pointer at 1:59 got it down to 15, and Harper scored in the paint to make it 59-32.
 
Millersville had the final possession of the quarter and got a 3-pointer from Shelby Reimer as time expired to end the run and put the Marauders in front 55-39.
 
Pitt-Johnstown wasn't able to get any closer than 13 the rest of the way.  Reimer's fifth 3-pointer of the afternoon gave the Marauders a 21-point fourth quarter lead and Millersville went on to the 22-point victory.
 
Along with Harper's 19 points and nine rebounds, Pitt-Johnstown also got eight points and five rebounds from Jamie Tabon and seven points from Rizzo.  Hollen grabbed six rebounds and Olivia McCabe pulled down five rebounds for the Lady Cats.
 
Harper is currently tied for 26th-place with Carol Mumma (1978-82) on the Lady Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,135 points.  Harper is also13th on the All-Time Rebounding List with 680 rebounds.
 
Despite being out-rebounded 39-28, Millersville took advantage of 31 Pitt-Johnstown turnovers and turned them into 31 points.
 
Pitt-Johnstown shot 38.5% (20-52) from the field, 3-13 from 3-point range, and 7-13 from the free-throw line.  The Marauders ended the day shooting 48.3% (29-60) from the floor, 7-16 from behind the 3-point line, and 7-9 from the charity stripe.
 
Reimer's 17 points and six rebounds, and Robinson's 10 points and five rebounds paced the Marauders who made it four straight victories and improved to 8-4 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC.
 
The Lady Cats return home to host three straight conference doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats beginning with Shippensburg University on Wednesday.  The Lady Cats will open Wednesday's doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
