Women’s Soccer Suffers Narrow 1-0 Loss at Mercyhurst

3765Jinan Abdalah Funes scored in the 14th minute, and Mercyhust made it stand-up in a 1-0 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Saturday afternoon in Erie.  The Lady Cats fell to 0-10-0 overall and 0-10-0 in conference-play.
 
Abdalah Funes took a cross into the box from Nicole McAlpin fourteen minutes in and found the back of the net behind Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Leigh Appolonia for the lone goal of the match.
 
Appolonia saw 15 Mercyhurst shots and made 10 saves, but took the loss after allowing the lone goal.
 
Kristen Koch earned the win in goal for the Lakers, who improved to raised their record to 6-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the PSAC.  Koch faced just thee Pitt-Johnstown shots and did not have to make a save in the shutout victory.
 
The Lady Cats return home to host a PSAC match against Slippery Rock on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field, before traveling to a conference match at Lock Haven on Saturday.
