Cambria Wierman had 16 kills and 16 digs, and
Marissa Erminio added 15 kills and a match-high 30 digs to lead the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team to a 3-sets-to-1 PSAC victory at East Stroudsburg University on Friday. The Mountain Cats moved to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC Central Division.
Pitt-Johnstown took the first set 25-21, but East Stroudsburg rallied for a 25-23 second set victory. However, 25-18 and 25-21 wins by the Mountain Cats sealed the victory.
Pitt-Johnstown got three straight kills from
Noelle Carota,
Kendall Mahony, and Erminio to climb out to a 14-8 lead in the opening set. East Stroudsburg cut it to 14-12, then to 16-14 on a Sam Dunphy kill, before Mahony and Wierman had back-to-back kills to rebuild the lead 19-14. The Warriors battled back and got to with two again, but another kill from Erminio gave the Mountain Cats the 25-21 win.
Wierman's kill, followed by a pair of
Devan Orr service aces ended a 9-2 Pitt-Johnstown run that put the Mountain Cats in front 12-6 in the second set. However, East Stroudsburg came back to tie on six separate occasions, with the last coming at 23. East Stroudsburg then got a kill from Dunphy to take their first lead, before a Mountain Cat attack error gave the Warriors a 25-23 win to even the match.

Pitt-Johnstown bounced right back to retake the lead with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
Allison Mondorff's service ace put the Mountain Cat up 11-4 to start. After East Stroudsburg got an ace from Erica Cunningham to cut it to 12-9, the Mountain Cats quickly regained control. Pitt-Johnstown got a kill from Wierman to take its largest lead of the set at 19-11, and
Maura Brehl's kill wrapped-up the eight-point win.
Just like the third set, the Mountain Cats jumped out to an early lead. This time, kills from Brehl and Wierman gave Pitt-Johnstown a 9-4 advantage, but the Warriors answered with a 7-2 run to knot it at 11, then went in front 17-16 on consecutive kills by Deisree Claxton. That was the last lead of the night for the Warriors.
Caitlin Vrabel's kill, followed by Erminio's block gave the lead back to Pitt-Johnstown, before two straight kills from Brehl closed out the 25-21 win.
Along with Erminio and Wierman, Vrabel also finished the night in double figures in kills with 11. Brehl had nine kills and a dozen digs, while Mahony also tallied nine kills for Pitt-Johnstown.
Allison Mondorff had three kills, tied for match-high with 42 set assists, and 11 digs, and
J.C. Longeville chipped-in 12 assists and seven digs. Pitt-Johnstown also got seven assists, 19 digs, and a pair of service aces from Orr.
Sarah Smith tied Wierman for match-high with 16 kills for the Warriors. Smith also had 19 digs, and Claxton tallied 14 kills and 12 digs for East Stroudsburg, which fell to 11-8 overall and 2-7 in the PSAC Southeastern Division.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC matches at Kutztown on Saturday and at Shippensburg and Millersville next weekend, before returning home to host conference matches against California (PA) on October 27 and Seton Hill on October 28.
