Edinboro Uses Five Second Half Goals to Down Women’s Soccer, 7-0

Box Score 4792Rebecca Manns scored a hat trick and Ashley Mutkus scored a pair of goals to help Edinboro University break open a two-goal halftime advantage with five secondhalf goals to lead the Fighting Scots to a 7-0 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Wednesday evening in Edinboro.  Pitt-Johnstown fell to 1-15-1 overall and 1-13-1 in conference-play.
 
Edinboro took an early lead when Manns turned Halle Hammer's assist into breakaway goal nine minutes into the match.
 
The Fighting Scots then took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break on Danielle Chatten's goal from 20 yards out off of an assist from Marissa Shields.
 
Edinboro pushed the lead out to 4-0 with a pair of goals in the first 19 minutes of the second half.  Mutkus finished a rebound off of Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Maria Mosquera in the 56th minute, before Manns' second goal of the game, a header in the 64th minute, made it 4-0.
 
The Fighting Scots went on to tack on three more goals, including one more each from Manns and Mutkus to set the final at 7-0.
 
Mosquera took the loss for the Mountain Cats after facing 31 Edinboro shots, making 12 saves, and allowing all seven goals, while Sarah Baskey earned the shutout in goal for the Fighting Scots.  Baskey saw 11 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made six saves.
 
Edinboro raised its overall record to 6-7-3 overall and 5-7-3 in the PSAC.
 
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to celebrate Senior Day and wrap-up the 2017 season with a conference match against No. 6-ranked Kutztown on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
