Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 PSAC Sweep Over Lock Haven

4573Marissa Erminio collected a match-high 14 kills and 19 digs to guide the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team to a convincing 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 PSAC sweep over Lock Haven University, Tuesday night in the Sports Center.  The Mountain Cats moved to 22-7 overall and 12-4 in the PSAC Central Division.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, which held a 50-17 advantage in kills for the match, jumped out to a quick four-point lead to start the opening set, but Lock Haven bounced back to tie it at nine on a Veronica Morrison kill.  However, the Mountain Cats outscored the Bald Eagles, 16-3, the rest of the way to claim the 25-12 win.  Pitt-Johnstown got the lead into double digits on Noelle Carota's kill, before Erminio's service ace, followed by an Erminio kill wrapped up the set.
 
After a kill from Gloria Kroh that put Lock Haven in front 11-5 in the second set, Pitt-Johnstown stormed back and cruised to a 25-16 victory.  The Mountain Cats knotted it at 13 on Erminio's kill, the extended it to 20-16 on Cambria Wierman's kill.  Pitt-Johnstown went on to score the final five points, including a pair of kills from Wierman and one from Carota.
 
It was all Mountain Cats in the third set.  Pitt-Johnstown scored seven straight points off of Caitlin Vrabel's serve to start and never looked back.  Morrison's kills got the Bald Eagles to within three, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with seven straight points to push it out to 19-9 on kills from Erminio and Vrabel.  Carota's kill gave the Mountain Cats their largest lead of the set at 13, and Pitt-Johnstown went on to the 25-15 win.
 
Along with Erminio, Vrabel had eight kills and three blocks, and Maura Brehl had eight kills and one block.  Carota and Kendall Mahony also had six and five kills, respectively.
 
The Mountain Cats were led by Allison Mondorff's match-high 25 set assists and 12 digs, and J.C. Longeville's 13 assists and seven digs.  Devan Orr had 15 digs.
 
Annie Dombrowski's nine kills and Chloe Williams's four kills paced Lock Haven, which fell to 11-17 overall and 4-12 in the PSAC Central.
 
Pitt-Johnstown will close out the 2017 regular season with home PSAC matches against Millersville University on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, and Shippensburg for Senior day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
