Gabrielle Smith scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds and
Tori Moreland added 16 points to help the Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team race out to a 19-point first quarter led in a 56-34 PSAC Crossover victory at Lock Haven, Saturday afternoon. Pitt-Johnstown made it four straight wins and improved to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the PSAC Western Division.
In the dominating first half, Pitt-Johnstown held Lock Haven to just 24.7% shooting and turned 14 Bald Eagles' turnovers into 15 points on its way to building a 22-point halftime lead.
It was all Pitt-Johnstown in the first quarter. Three-pointers from Moreland and
Alexis Hartwick, followed by an
Olivia McCabe basket gave the Cats an 8-2 lead to start. After Maimuna Kenneh's lay-up at 44:23 cut Lock Haven's deficit to two, Pitt-Johnstown went on to outscore the Bald Eagles 18-2 the rest of the way to build a 19-point lead. Baskets by Hartwick and Smith increased it to 19-6 at the 3:32 mark, before five straight points from Moreland gave Pitt-Johnstown a

commanding 27-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
Nicole Olkosky scored for the Cats to begin the second quarter to extend the run to 20-2, and McCabe's layup with 6:35 remaining in the half made it 33-13. Pitt-Johnstown never let Lock Haven any closer than 17 the rest of the quarter. Another 3-pointer from Moreland with 3-minutes to go gave the Cats a 23-point advantage, to help Pitt-Johnstown took a 41-19 lead into the halftime break.
Pitt-Johnstown got off to a slow start in the third quarter and Lock Haven took advantage of it. The Bald Eagles outscored the Cats 13-0 over the first 7:25 of the quarter to narrow the gap to 41-32 on Bink Redman's jumper and a 3-pointer from Rileigh Devine. Pitt-Johnstown finally got its first second half points on two McCabe free-throws at 2:35, before a pair of buckets from Smith got the lead back out to 15 at 47-32 entering the fourth quarter.
Three more points from Smith in the first minute of the fourth quarter made 50-32 and Pitt-Johnstown never looked back. The Cats held Lock Haven to just two points in the quarter and cruised to the 22-point victory.
Along with Smith and Moreland, Pitt-Johnstown also got 10 points from Hartwick and eight points and six rebounds from McCabe.
With her six rebounds, McCabe currently stands in 16
th-place on the Pitt-Johnstown Rebounding with 658 rebounds.
Despite being out-rebounded 47-32, Pitt-Johnstown controlled every other aspect of the game. The Cats shot 41.7% (20-48), including 8-18 from behind the 3-point line, while holding Lock Haven to just 23.1% (12-52) shooting from the floor and 2-12 from 3-point range. Pitt-Johnstown was also 8-18 from the free-throw line, while the Bald Eagles finished 8-20 from the charity stripe.
Devine's 13 points and Mackenzie Livingston's 13 points paced Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles, who fell to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the PSAC East, also got a game-high 16 rebounds from Kenneh.
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a non-conference game against Wheeling Jesuit (WV) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Sports Center, before breaking for the holiday season. Pitt-Johnstown will then travel to Clarion for a PSAC game on December 30, then host conference doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against IUP on January 3 and Gannon on January 6.
