Softball Suffers Pair of 8-0 PSAC Losses at Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg pitchers Taylor Parker and Mallory Tomaschik each allowed just one hit in a pair of 8-0 PSAC Central Division victories over the Pitt-Johnstown softball team, Friday afternoon in Bloomsburg.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 13-15 overall and 2-8 in the PSAC Central.
 
Bloomsburg built a 5-0 first inning lead in the opener.  Holly Peacock drew a bases loaded walk, and Emily Mayhew and Emily Getz scored on a Pitt-Johnstown throwing error.  The Huskies then got a two-run single from Maggie Hall to make it 5-0.
 
Bloomsburg scored another run in the fifth, and two more in the sixth to close out the 8-0, run-shortened victory.
 
Parker got it done in the circle for the Huskies.  Parker held Pitt-Johnstown to just one hit, a two-out single by Amber Maurer in the sixth inning.  Parker also struck out 14 and didn't allow a walk in the complete-game victory.
 
Pitt-Johnstown pitcher Melissa Wagner, who fell to 9-6, allowed eight runs, but just three were earned, in 5 1/3 innings.  Wagner also struck out three and walked two.
 
In game two, Tomaschik did it all.  Tomaschik connected for a grand slam to highlight a seven-run third inning.  In the circle, Thomashck fanned 10 and held Pitt-Johnstown scoreless on just one hit in the 8-0 win in five innings.
 
Allison Rizzo's infield single in the top of the fifth inning accounted for Pitt-Johnstown's only hit.
 
Samantha Frey took the loss and slipped to 2-3 after surrendering eight runs on six hits.
 
With the sweep, the Huskies improved to 18-12 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC Central.
 
Pitt-Johnstown returns home to host a PSAC doubleheader against Mansfield on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex, before hosting a conference doubleheader against Clarion on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m.
