After splitting a pair of PSAC Western Division games in Greensburg on Friday, Seton Hill came to Point Stadium on Saturday and swept the Mountain Cats, 13-2 and 7-5. Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 14-22 overall and 4-12 in conference-play.
In game one, Seton Hill jumped out to a 7-0 lead with six runs in the third inning, highlighted by M.P. Buckley's three-run home run.
Jack Shirk and
Brett Hileman each drove in runs in the Pitt-Johnstown third to cut it to 7-2, but the Griffins added three more runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings and went on to the 13-2 victory.
Dillon Boyer,
Joe Gagliardi,
Dylan Kerstetter, and Shirk accounted all four of the Mountain Cats' hit off of Seton Hill's Joe Shaffer.
Trent Martin took the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Shane Supanick pitched the final 4 1/3 innings and surrendered six runs (4 earned) on five hits. Supanick also struck out six and walk one.
In game two,
Tanner Cook's single plated
Evan Appleby and Gagliardi scored on an error to give Pitt-Johnstown a 2-0 lead after two innings.
The Mountain Cats made it 3-1 on
Scott Thompson's RBI single in the third, but Seton came back with two runs in the fourth to tie on an RBI single from Adam Ferita and a sacrifice fly from Carl Turner.
Ryan Wardropper's solo homer to lead off the sixth inning gave to lead to the Griffins, before Mark Colella drew a bases loaded walk off of Mountain Cat reliever
Brad Coleman that made it 5-3.
Wardropper added a two-run home run in the seventh that increased it to 7-3, before the Mountain Cats scored a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to set the final at 7-5.
Cook and Thompson each singled and drove in a run for the Mountain Cats, and Shirk had two hits.
Nathan Bearer fell to 2-4 after surrendering five runs on 11 hits over the first 5 1/3 innings. Coleman allowed a pair of runs in one inning in relief.
Seton Hill improved to 23-13 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC doubleheader at Clarion on Friday, before completing the four-game conference series with a doubleheader at Point Stadium on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
