After taking game one of a PSAC doubleheader in Lock haven, 3-2, the Bald Eagles built a three-run lead in the second inning and went on to complete the sweep with a 3-1 victory in game two. Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 14-20 overall and 3-13 on the PSAC Central Division.
In the opener, Lock Haven scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and the Bald Eagles made that lead stand up in the 3-2 win.
Pitt-Johnstown scored a run in the top of the first to take an early lead.
Morgan Cannin led-off the game with a single and eventually scored on
Taylor Hoover's ground out, before Lock Haven answered with a pair of runs in its first at-bat to quickly go in front.
The score stayed the same until the fifth inning when
Marley Elbin's two-out base hit chased home
Lyndsey Weiser to tie it.
However, in the bottom of the frame, the Bald Eagles got a lead-off single from Faith Ceely. Ceely moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score the eventual game-winning run on a Pitt-Johnstown throwing error.
Elbin had two hits and an RBI, and
Amber Maurer collected two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Kelsey Feeney added a double, while Cannin and Weiser each singled.
Samantha Frey allowed three runs (2 earned) on six hits in six innings, but took the loss and fell to 2-5.
Lock Haven got a complete-game in the circle from Bekah Slattery. Slattery gave up a pair of runs on seven hits, struck out six, and didn't allow a walk.
In the nightcap, the Bald Eagles scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the second on a Jodi Weaknecht RBI single and a Pitt-Johnstown error.
Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases in the seventh and used a wild pitch to score
Courtney McMahan, but Rachel Mouillesseaux was able to work out of the jam to finish the complete-game shut out for Lock Haven.
After surrendering the three runs (1 earned) in the first two innings, Pitt-Johnstown starter
Melissa Wagner, who slipped to 10-9, held Lock Haven scoreless on just two hits over the final four innings.
Ashley Shor went 3-for-3, and Hoover doubled for Pitt-Johnstown.
McKenna Kern, McMahan, Feeney, and Elbin also had hits.
With the sweep, Lock Haven improved to 21-17 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC Central.
Pitt-Johnstown closes the 2017 regular season with a conference doubleheader against Bloomsburg on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. before hosting a Senior Day doubleheader against Indiana (PA) on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Both doubleheaders will be played at V.E. Erickson Complex.
