Softball Suffers Two PSAC Road Losses at Lock Haven

Lock Haven, PA

After taking game one of a PSAC doubleheader in Lock haven, 3-2, the Bald Eagles built a three-run lead in the second inning and went on to complete the sweep with a 3-1 victory in game two.  Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 14-20 overall and 3-13 on the PSAC Central Division.

In the opener, Lock Haven scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and the Bald Eagles made that lead stand up in the 3-2 win.

Pitt-Johnstown scored a run in the top of the first to take an early lead.  Morgan Cannin led-off the game with a single and eventually scored on Taylor Hoover's ground out, before Lock Haven answered with a pair of runs in its first at-bat to quickly go in front.

The score stayed the same until the fifth inning when Marley Elbin's two-out base hit chased home Lyndsey Weiser to tie it.

However, in the bottom of the frame, the Bald Eagles got a lead-off single from Faith Ceely.  Ceely moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score the eventual game-winning run on a Pitt-Johnstown throwing error.

Elbin had two hits and an RBI, and Amber Maurer collected two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.  Kelsey Feeney added a double, while Cannin and Weiser each singled.

Samantha Frey allowed three runs (2 earned) on six hits in six innings, but took the loss and fell to 2-5.

Lock Haven got a complete-game in the circle from Bekah Slattery.  Slattery gave up a pair of runs on seven hits, struck out six, and didn't allow a walk.

In the nightcap, the Bald Eagles scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the second on a Jodi Weaknecht RBI single and a Pitt-Johnstown error.

Pitt-Johnstown loaded the bases in the seventh and used a wild pitch to score Courtney McMahan, but Rachel Mouillesseaux was able to work out of the jam to finish the complete-game shut out for Lock Haven.

After surrendering the three runs (1 earned) in the first two innings, Pitt-Johnstown starter Melissa Wagner, who slipped to 10-9, held Lock Haven scoreless on just two hits over the final four innings.

Ashley Shor went 3-for-3, and Hoover doubled for Pitt-Johnstown.  McKenna Kern, McMahan, Feeney, and Elbin also had hits.

With the sweep, Lock Haven improved to 21-17 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC Central.

Pitt-Johnstown closes the 2017 regular season with a conference doubleheader against Bloomsburg on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. before hosting a Senior Day doubleheader against Indiana (PA) on Saturday starting at 5 p.m.  Both doubleheaders will be played at V.E. Erickson Complex.
