Top-ranked Mercyhurst University belted seven home runs in Saturday's PSAC Western Division doubleheader in Erie on its way to an 11-2 and 13-2 sweep over the Mountain Cats.
Zach Zinn added a homer for Pitt-Johnstown, which dropped to 18-26 overall and 8-16 in conference-play.
In game one, Mercyhurst scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning and pushed it out to 9-0 in the fifth on a Jimmy Latona solo home run, before going on to the 11-2 victory.
After falling behind 9-0, Pitt-Johnstown got on the scoreboard in the sixth.
Dan Clark led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on
Joe Gagliardi's single up the middle.
The Lakers added two more solo homers in their half of the sixth, before Pitt-Johnstown wet the final at 11-2 on
Dan Clark's sacrifice fly that plated
Scott Kuczala in the seventh.
Clark doubled and drove in a run, and Gagliardi singled accounted for Pitt-Johnstown's other RBI.
Nate Bearer started and took the loss for the Mountain Cats after giving up eight runs (5 earned) on nine hits in five innings. Bearer also struck out three.
Ty Treaster pitched the final two innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
In game two, the Lakers hit four more home runs, including a pair from Dan Popio in the 13-2 win.
Zinn hit a solo homer for Pitt-Johnstown, while Gagliardi went 3-for-3 for Pitt-Johnstown. Tanner cook had two hits, including a double, and Clark drove in a run.
Brady Walker fell to 3-4 after giving up six runs (4 earned) on eight hits in five innings. Walker also fanned eight and walked just one.
With the sweep, Mercyhurst improved to 34-4 overall and 21-4 in the PSAC Western Division.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC doubleheader at Indiana (PA) on Friday, before closing out the 2017 regular season and celebrating Senior Day with a PSAC doubleheader against IUP on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
