IUP Takes Pair From Mountain Cats to Open Final PSAC Series

Indiana, PA

After taking game one of Thursday's PSAC Western Division doubleheader in Indiana, IUP got an RBI base hit from Wes Carson in the bottom of the eighth inning to walk-off with a 3-2 win and complete the sweep over the Mountain Cats.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 18-28 overall and 8-18 in the PSAC West.

In game one, IUP got a two-run home run from Anthony Rigous' in the second inning and increased it to 5-0 on Wes Carson's two-run homer in the third.

Pitt-Johnstown answered with a pair of runs in fourth and one in the fifth.  Dan Clark belted a two-run home run that cut it to 5-2, before Brett Hileman scored from third on a wild pitch in the fifth.

The Crimson Hawks answered right back with four more in their half of the fifth, highlighted by Chris Eisel's bases-clearing 3-run triple, to build the lead to 9-3.

Clark hit a two-run home run and Evan Appleby went 2-for-3 for the Mountain Cats.  Hileman was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, and Scott Thompson added a double.

Nathan Bearer took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown after allowing five runs on four hits over the first three innings.  Shane Supanick pitched the final three innings and gave up four runs on three hits.

In the nightcap, Pitt-Johnstown scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning to knot it at two, but Carson's base hit off of Cam Hess over a drawn in Mountain Cat infield in the bottom of the eighth plated Rigous with the game-winner.

IUP went up 2-0 in the second inning, but Pitt-Johnstown came back with a pair of runs in the sixth on Hileman's RBI double and a run-scoring single from Clark.

Along with Hileman and Clark, Joe Gagliardi accounted for the Mountain Cats' three hits.

Hess took the loss in relief of starter Brady Walker.  Walker pitched the first seven innings and held IUP to just two runs (1 earned) on nine hits.  Walker also struck out seven and walked only one.

With the sweep, the Crimson Hawks improved to 20-23 overall and 16-10 in the PSAC West.

Pitt-Johnstown will close out the 2017 season and celebrate Senior Day with a PSAC doubleheader against IUP on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Point Stadium.
