
The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team got a goal from
Kyra Watkins and came away with a 1-1 draw with Mansfield University, Saturday afternoon in the team's home opener at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. With the draw, the Mountain Cats secured their second straight conference result and are now 1-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the PSAC.
Mansfield opened the scoring on a Kersten O'Brien goal assisted by Eleni Gebbia in the ninth minute, but Watkins evened the match in the 41
st minute on a header off of a
Brooke Vollmer assist.
From the second half on, the Mountain Cats hammered away on shots, outshooting Mansfield 22-9 but couldn't beat Mountaineer goalkeeper Rachel Fox, who finished the game with seven saves.
Sam Bahorich had a chance to win it for the Mountain Cats with a penalty kick in the 107
th minute, but Fox came up with a game-saving save.
Pitt-Johnstown's goalkeeper,
Leigh Appolonia held the Mountaineers to just one goal on 12 shots. Appolonia made eight saves.
Pitt-Johnstown will be back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field when California (PA) visits for a PSAC match, before traveling to Millersville for another conference match on Saturday.
