
Mercyhurst University scored three first half goals, including a pair by Anja Korte in first five minutes of the match, and went on to hold on for a 3-1 PSAC victory over the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team, Sunday afternoon in Erie.  
Brooke Vollmer accounted for the Mountain Cats' lone goal.  With the loss, Pitt-Johnstown dropped to 1-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in conference-play.
 
Korte finished an assist from Emilie Bock a two-on-one breakaway to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead three minutes into the match.
 
Two minutes later, Korte scored on a rebound off of Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper 
Leigh Appolonia, before the Lakers increased it to 3-1 in the 34
th minute on Bock's goal off of Maggie Hilton's throughball from midfield.
 
The Mountain Cats got on scoreboard seven minutes into the second half when Vollmer's shot found the back of the net behind Mercyhurst goalkeeper Vilde Wold.
 
Appolonia took the loss in net for Pitt-Johnstown after facing 21 Lakers' shots and making six saves.
 
Wold saw just four Mountain Cat shots, allowed one goal and was forced to make one save to help Mercyhurst improve to 2-3-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the PSAC.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Clarion for a PSAC match on Wednesday, before returning home a conference match against Slippery Rock University on October 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
