Johnstown, PA

5960Maura Brehl and Noelle Carota tied for match-high with 18 kills apiece to lead the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team to a 25-20 27-25, 31-29 PSAC sweep over Millersville University, Friday night in the Sports Center.  The Mountain Cats improved to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC Central Division.

Pitt-Johnstown took a 12-9 first-set lead on Caitlin Vrabel's kill, then pushed it out to 18-13 with a kill from Carota and a Millersville attack error.  A Lindsey Blevins' kill got the Marauders back to within three, but, the Mountain Cats got it to set point on another Millersville attack error and won the set 25-20 on Brehl's kill.

In another close set, the Mountain Cats jumped out to an 8-5 lead on Vrabel's kill, before Millersville countered with a 9-4 run, capped by a Blevins and Haley Butler block and a Chyna Gubbings service ace, to go in front 14-12.  Neither team was able to pull away.  After the Mountain Cats moved it to set point with Tatiana Pitcher and Vrabel kills, the Marauders answered with three straight points to go up 25-24.  However, Pitt-Johnstown scored the final three on kills from Vrabel and Brehl and a Millersville attack error to win it 27-25.

5961With their backs against the wall in the third set, the Marauders ran out to an 11-5 lead on Maddee Luring's service ace.  Pitt-Johnstown clawed back to knot it at 15 on Brehl's kill and Vrabel's ace, but Millersville regained control and extended it to 24-18.  Now it was time for the Mountain Cats to respond.  Pitt-Johnstown scored the next six to tie it at 24 on Hailey Mackenthun's ace and Carota's kill for force extra points.  The teams exchanged the lead several times until Pitt-Johnstown took advantage of back-to-back Millersville attack errors to complete the sweep with the 31-29 win.
