Maura Brehl tied for match-high with 25 kills and added 15 digs, but West Chester University rallied from a 2-sets-to-1 deficit and earned a 15-10 win in the final set to deal the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team a five-set PSAC setback, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats slipped to 10-10 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC Central Division.
Pitt-Johnstown took a one set lead with a 25-12 win in the third set, but West Chester answered with 25-22 and 15-10 wins to close out the victory.
A combined block from
Caitlin Vrabel and
Noelle Carota, followed by a Golden Rams' attack error gave Pitt-Johnstown a 17-12 first-set lead. West Chester cut it to 23-20 on Rachel Robb's kill, but the Mountain Cats were able to hold on for a 25-21 win with kills from Brehl and Carota.

In the second set,
Anna Johns' kill put the Mountain Cats on top 16-13, but West Chester battled back to tie it at 18 on a Nina Tindall service ace, before getting four straight kills from Julia Vreeswyk to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-21 victory.
It was all Pitt-Johnstown in the third set on its way to a 25-12 win. Carota's kill made it 15-4 to start, and a kill from Brehl and a Golden Rams' attack error wrapped-up the set.
After Johns' kill in the fourth set knotted it at 15, West Chester regained the lead 23-20 on a pair of Vreeswyk kills and forced the fifth set with a 25-22 on a kill by Allie Duffy.
Pitt-Johnstown was able to keep the final set close and narrowed it to 10-9 on Brehl's kill, but for more kills from Vreeswyk and one from Jillian Grammer closed out a 5-1 Golden Rams' run and sealed the 15-10 win.

Along with Brehl, Pitt-Johnstown also got 12 kills, six blocks, and 21 digs from Carota and 12 kills and four blocks from Vrabel. Johns finished with eight kills and four blocks.
J.C. Longeville's match-high 56 set assists and 10 digs led the way for the Mountain Cats, while Erin Carody had 21 digs and
Hailey Mackenthun had 10 digs.
Vreeswyk's 25 kills tied Brehl for match-high and helped the Golden Rams improve to 17-3 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC Southeast Division.
Pitt-Johnstown wraps-up a stretch of five consecutive home dates with a non-conference match against Point Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and PSAC matches against Lock Haven on Friday at 7 p.m. and Bloomsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
