Gabrielle Smith's and
Alli McGrath's 14 points weren't enough as the Pitt-Johnstown women's basketball team dropped their home opener against Kutztown, 67-49 at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center. The Mountain Cats fell to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC. Kutztown improved to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in conference.
Kutztown opened the game on a 16-0 run, highlighted by Rylee Derr's layup with 3:05 remaining In the first quarter. A
Tori Moreland 3-pointer and layup made it 18-7.
Kutztown opened up a 19-point lead thanks to a layup from Zoe Zerman. With 5:44 remaining in the second quarter, McGrath hit a 3-pointer to make it 34-18.
Kutztown opened up their biggest lead of the game with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter. when Derr hit a pair of free throws to make it, 51-26. The Mountain Cats responded on an 8-0 run to make it, 51-34.

Smith and McGrath led the Mountain Cats in scoring with 14 apiece. Moreland added nine points for the Mountain Cats.
Derr scored a game high 15 points for Kutztown. Taylor Thames added 14 points and Brianna Tarabocchia had 13 on the day.
The Mountain Cats return to action when they take on Robert Morris University Dec. 15, before hosting Chaney University Dec. 18.
