The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats opened up an early 2-0 lead, but could not hold on. Concord pulled away to win, 12-4, in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field in Athens, (W.Va.). The Mountain Cats fell to 1-3 and Concord improved to 3-3.
Scott Thompson led off the second inning with a single to left field, followed by a Zach Zinn double down the left-field line. Cam Gerhard singled to center field to bring home Thompson and give Pitt-Johnstown the 1-0 lead.
In the Top of the third inning, Jack Shirk singled then stole second base. After a Dan Clark walk, Thompson doubled to left field to bring home Shirk and make it, 2-0.
Troy Beckner earned the win for Concord, Beckner finished the day with five-innings pitched, scattering seven hits, while giving up two runs. Brady Walker took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown, Walker allowed three runs, two earned in four-innings pitched. He finished the day with five strike outs and only walking one.
The Mountain Cats will finish their series against Concord tomorrow at 1 p.m., before traveling to Charleston, (W.Va.) to take on Charleston University in a three-game series March 3 and 4.
