Isaac Vescovi scored a game-high 23 points,
Dale Clancy had 20 points, and
Josh Wise added 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds as Pitt-Johnstown raced out to an early double-digit lead and cruised to an 86-67 PSAC Western Division victory over Clarion University, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats are now 11-10 overall and 9-8 in conference-play.
Pitt-Johnstown never trailed and ran out to 21-11 lead at the midway mark of the opening half on Clancy's 3-pointer.
Cameron Grumley's lay-up a minute later got the Golden Eagles back to within six, but it was all Mountain Cats after that. Pitt-Johnstown outscored Clarion 14-4 over the next six minutes to push it out to 16 on Olando King Jr.'s basket and
Marcin Wiszomirski's lay-up.
The Golden Eagles cut it to 37-27 with a bucket from Kuante Sargent with 1:53 left in the half, but Vescovi's layup and Clancy's jumper, followed by

a pair of free-throws from
Drew Magestro put the Mountain Cats up 43-27 at the half.
Pitt-Johnstown continued to extend its lead and built it to 53-33 on another Vescovi basket at 15:31, before Clarion got two free-throws and a layup from Zavyer Craft to get back to within 12 with 3:33 to play.
That was as close as it would get. Wise knocked down a jumper to extend it to 76-60, and the Mountain Cats cruised to the 19-point win.
Vescovi led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed four rebounds to eclipse 400 for his career, while Clancy had 20 points, including four 3-pointers, four rebounds and five assists for Pitt-Johnstown. Wise had 16 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists, and Magestro had 10 points (6-6 free-throws) and five assists. The Mountain Cats also got six points and 14 rebounds from
Levi Masua and seven points off the bench from Wiszomirski.
Clancy currently stands in 12
th-place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List (1,367 points), third on the assists list (497), and fifth on the 3-point field goals list (217). Vescovi is 15
th-place on the Pitt-Johnstown Scoring List with 1,276 points.
Pitt-Johnstown, which dominated the boards 47-25, shot 49.3% (33-67) from the floor, 4-16 from 3-point range, and a perfect 16-16 from the free-throw line. Clarion was held to just 42.6% (26-61). The Golden Eagles hit 9-22 from behind the 3-point line and 6-12 from the charity stripe.
Brandon Williams' 15 points paced Clarion, which fell to 3-20 overall and 0-17 in the PSAC West.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a PSAC game at Indiana (PA) on Wednesday, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day as part of a conference doubleheader with the women's against California (PA), Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center.
