Pitt-Johnstown Splits final two games against IUP

Johnstown, Pa.

The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats baseball team split the final two games of their series against the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks. After winning the both games yesterday, the Mountain Cats won game three, 10-5, and lost game four, 3-2. The Mountain Cats improved to 6-11 overall and 3-1 in the PSAC West. Indiana (Pa.) fell to 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC West.
 
GAME ONE:
 
5462The Mountain Cats got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Mason Prickett grounded out allowing Cam Gerhard to score.
 
In the top of the third inning, Scott Thompson hit a two-run home run to make it, 3-0 Mountain Cats.
 
In the fourth inning, Chris Callari doubled down the right-field line scoring Austin Mueller. Later that inning, the Crimson Hawks tied it at three with Chris Eisel's two-RBI single.
 
The Mountain Cats answered in the fifth, Thompson singled to right field to bring home Dylan Kerstetter and regain the lead. They added another run on a throwing error allowing Thompson to score and make it, 5-3.
 
The Mountain Cats added another run in the sixth inning when Jack Shirk doubled down the right field line, bringing home Tanner Cook.
 
The Mountain Cats added insurance in the top of the seventh inning when Kerstetter reached on an error by the left field allowing Prickett, Nemo Trexler and Gerhard to score.
 
The Mountain Cats were led offensively by Shirk who finished the game 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Gerhard who finished 3-for-3 and Thompson who was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
 
Trent Martin got the start and no decision for the Mountain Cats. Martin finished the day pitching 3.2 innings giving up one run on zero hits, walking five and striking out four. Raymond Watt hot the win in relief pitching 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two. Nate Bearer hot the save pitching 1.2 Innings of scoreless ball and striking out two.
 
Alex Hart got the start for the Crimson Hawks and took the loss. Hart finished the day giving up five runs, three earned on seven hits and striking out three.
 
GAME TWO:
 
5449The Mountain Cats added two runs in the first inning when Gerhard and Prickett doubled to left field.
 
Indiana (Pa.) answered in the bottom of the first inning with two runs of their own to tie it at two, when Cory Wheeler scored on a wild pitch and Nate Dickey reach on a throwing error allowing Matt Swartz to score.
 
Swartz hit the go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Crimson Hawks the lead.
 
Dylan Heid got the start and took the loss for the Mountain Cats. Heid pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs, one earned on four hits and striking out four.
 
Brian Albert got the win for the Crimson Hawks. Albert went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out seven.
 
The Mountain Cats are scheduled to travel to California (Pa.) to take on the Vulcans in a PSAC West double header Friday, before finishing up the series at the Point Stadium Saturday.
