Pitt-Johnstown Drops two games against California (Pa.)

5472The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats baseball team dropped a double header against the California (Pa.) Vulcans Friday afternoon at the Washington Wild Things Park. The Mountain Cats fell to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC West. The Vulcans improved to 11-10 and 2-4 in the PSAC West.
 
GAME ONE
 
The Mountain Cats dropped game one, of a double header, against the California (Pa.) Vulcans 6-5 in eight innings.
 
The Mountain Cats got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Dan Clark doubled down the left field line. California (Pa.) tied it,  in the bottom of the inning taking advantage of an error allowing Levi Krause to score.
 
Zach Zinn doubled in the top of the third, to give the Mountain Cats the 2-1 lead. The Vulcans answered again in the bottom of the inning, to tie it at two, when Eric Fairman doubled to right center scoring Bill Hitman.
 
Mason Prickett gave the Mountain Cats the lead in the top of the sixth inning when he hit a solo homerun. California (Pa.) tied it at three when Ben Maudie singled to the pitcher and advanced to second on the throwing error scoring Garrett Brooks. Krause gave the Vulcans a 5-3 lead when he doubled to left field.
 
The Mountain Cats battled back to tie it in the top of the seventh thanks to a Clark double and wild pitch that scored Dylan Kerstetter.
 
Heading into extra innings, Tyler Smith homered down the left field line to make it 6-5. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Kristian Webb walked it off for the Vulcans when he reached on an infield single, scoring Krause.
 
Brady Walker got the start and no decision for the Mountain Cats. Walker pitched 4.2 innings giving up one-earned run on four hits and four walks, while striking out two. Shane Supanick took the loss in relief. Supanick finished the day pitching 2.1 innings giving up two-earned runs on two hits and striking out two.
 
Game Two
The Mountain Cats dropped game two, of a double header, against the California (Pa.) Vulcans 8-1.
 
California (Pa.) opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second when Fairman hit a solo homerun to left field. California (Pa.) made it 3-0 when Krause singled to left field scoring Austin Logan.
 
The Vulcans added five more runs in the fourth inning highlighted by a Bobby Thompson singled to right field.
 
Pitt-Johnstown added a run in the fifth inning when Kerstetter singled to second base scoring Tanner Cook.
 
Ben Foose got the start and took the loss for the Mountain Cats. Foose finished the game pitching 3.1 innings, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and striking out two.
 
Nick Riggle pitched a complete game for the Vulcans giving up one run on five hits and striking out five.
 
The Mountain Cats will finish up the four-game series against the California (Pa.) Vulcans Saturday at 1:00 P.M and 3:00 P.M at the Point Stadium.
