Mountain Cats Split With Seton HIll, Win in Walk-off Fashion

Johnstown, PA

5469The Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats baseball team split a double header Saturday afternoon winning game one in walk-off fashion, 3-2 and dropping the night cap, 11-7. The Mountain Cats are now 9-22 overall and 6-12 overall in the PSAC West. Seton Hill moves to 15-17 and 10-8 in the PSAC West.

GAME ONE
Tom McCarthy got the Seton Hill Griffins on the scoreboard when he homered to left field in the top of the fourth inning. They added another run in the sixth when Adam Bankovich reached on an error, allowing McCarthy to score.

I the bottom of the sixth inning, Dan Clark hit a home run to left-center field to make it 2-1. Heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, Nemon Trexler stepped up the plate lining a pitch into right-center field to score Nico Pecora and Tyler Smith.

Brady Walker got the start going five innings giving up one-earned run on seven hits and striking out three. Brad Coleman earned the win in relief tossing two thirds of an inning and striking out one.

Patrick Monteverde got the no decision for the Griffins. Monteverde pitched five and 2/3 innings, giving up one-earned run on six hits and striking out nine.
Kenny Wells took the loss in relief pitching two thirds of an inning and giving up two runs, one earned.

Offensively the Mountain Cats were led by Clark. Clark finished game one going 2-for-2 with a walk and driving in one. Ben Foose finished the game going 2-for-3.
 
Game Two
Seton Hill added two runs in the first inning when Jordan Fiedor reached on a fielder's choice and McCarthy doubled down the right-field line.

The Mountain Cats added runs in the second and third inning. In the second inning Pecora singled and in the third inning Jack Shirk scored on a wild pitch.

The Griffins made it, 3-2 in the fifth inning when Garret Vrbanic double to right-center field.
In the sixth inning, Seton Hill's offense exploded for six runs to make it 9-2, highlighted by McCarthy's two-RBI single to right field.

The Mountain Cats tried to claw back in the sixth inning. The Mountain Cats made it 9-4, when Ty Treese and Pecora grounded out.

In the seventh inning, Prickett doubled and Pecora singled to make it 11-7.

Pitt-Johnstown starting pitcher Trent Martin took the loss. Martin pitched four innings, giving up three-earned runs on four hits and striking out four.

Jared Kollar pitched five and 1/3 innings, giving up four-earned runs on six hits and striking out nine.

George Coyle go his first save of the season when he came into the game and got one out in the seventh inning.

Offensively the Mountain Cats were led by Pecora who finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Scott Thompson finished game two going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs.

The Mountain Cats are schedule to travel to Greensburg Saturday to finish the four-game series against Seton Hill, before taking on Clarion (Pa.) University next Friday at the Point Stadium in Johnstown.
