Bloomburg Sweeps PSAC Doubleheader From Pitt-Johnstown

5881Bloomsburg ran out to a big lead in Saturday's 10-0 PSAC Central opening win in Bloomsburg, before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 5-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown in the nightcap.  The Mountain Cats fell to 9-19 overall and 5-9 in conference-play.
 
In game one, Bloomsburg scored four unearned, first inning runs off of Pitt-Johnstown starter Kristen Coffay.  With two outs in the opening inning, Tara Baney drew a bases loaded walk, and Bridget Casey followed with a three-run double to the gap in right center.
 
In the second, Kalynn Wheeland doubled home two to increase it to 6-0, before the Huskies scored three more runs in their half of the third.
 
Bloomsburg set the final at 10-0 with back-to-back double from Baney and Casey to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
Ali Belgiovane tripled and Kristie Radvan and McKenna each had base hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
 
Radvan took the loss and slipped to 5-6 after allowing six runs (2 earned) in 2 2/3 innings.  Ashley Pagliei pitched 1 1/3 innings and surrendered four runs on six hits.
 
In game 2, Bloomsburg broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fifth on its way to the 5-1 victory.
 
Stacey Walling's sacrifice fly scored Morgan Cannin to give Pitt-Johnstown a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Huskies answered with a run to tie it in its half of the inning.
 
It stayed that way until the fifth when Bloomsburg strung together three straight RBI singles and an Ashli Venokur sacrifice fly to go in front 5-1.
 
Cannin singled and drove in a run, while Walling also had an RBI for Pitt-Johnstown.  Bree Ginther and Montana Mang also singled for the Mountain Cats.
 
Melissa Wagner suffered the loss in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown after giving up five runs (4 earned) on five hits in six innings.
 
With the sweep, the Huskies raised their record to 16-17 overall and 8-8 in the PSAC Central.
 
Pitt-Johnstown travels to a non-conference doubleheader at Shippensburg on Sunday and to Indiana (PA) for a pair of PSAC games on Tuesday.  The Mountain Cats play their next home games on April 28 when they celebrate Senior Day against Indiana (PA) at 5 and 7 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
