Stacey Walling's two-run double in Sunday's non-conference opener at Shippensburg was enough to lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 2-1 victory, but the Raiders came back to earn the split with a 5-3 win in the nightcap. Pitt-Johnstown is now 10-20.
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown got strong pitching from
Emily Moore and a two-run double from Walling in the 2-1 win.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Tara Bicko's RBI single, but Pitt-Johnstown answered with two in the fifth.
Morgan Cannin and
Olivia Porter each walked and came around to score on Walling's double to the gap in left center.
Moore did the rest in the circle for the Mountain Cats, including getting Bicko to fly out with runners on second and third to end the game.
Moore (2-1) pitched a complete game and held the Raiders to just one run on nine hits.
Walling went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Pitt-Johnstown. Cannin added two hits and a run, and
Marley Elbin tripled for the Mountain Cats.
In game two, Bicko and Kayla Bonawitz each had RBI doubles in a four-run Shippensburg second inning, before the Raiders made it 5-0 in the fourth.
Pitt-Johnstown got an RBI single from Walling and a two-run double from
Jade Stubblefield in the top of the seventh that cut it to 5-3, but that was as close as it would get.
Stubblefield had two hits, including a double and two RBI, and Walling had two hits and an RBI for the Mountain Cats. Porter also had two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Samantha Frey took the loss for Pitt-Johnstown and slipped to 0-2 after giving up four runs on five hits over the first 1 2/3 innings.
Ashley Pagliei pitched the final 4 1/3 innings and held Shippensburg to just one run on two hits.
With the split, the Raiders are now 19-15.
