Hoover’s Efforts Not Enough as Pitt-Johnstown Drops PSAC Doubleheader at Indiana (PA)

5166After a 7-1 loss in Thursday's PSAC opener at Indiana (PA), Taylor Hoover's two-run double in the top of the seventh gave Pitt-Johnstown a one-run lead, but the Crimson Hawks answered with a three-run, walk-off double from Renee Wall to complete the sweep with an 8-6 win.  Hoover went 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple and a double for the Mountain Cats, who fell to 10-22 overall and 5-11 in the PSAC Central, got three  
 
In the opener, Alaina Montgomery's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning put the Crimson Hawks in front 1-0.
 
Pitt-Johnstown tied it in the third after Ali Belgiovane was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded allowing Ashley Shor to score, but Indiana (PA) quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, before adding two more runs in the fourth on Montgomery's two-run fielder's choice.
 
Three straight RBI singles by Bryanna Lonick, Megan Little, and Brooklyn Kotula in the Crimson Hawks' fifth increased it to 7-1.
 
5162Lauren Zola improved to 9-6 for Indiana (PA) after holding Pitt-Johnstown to just three hits, a double by McKenna Kern in the sixth and singles from Marley Elbin and Belgiovane.
 
Melissa Wagner started and took the loss for the Mountain Cats after giving up seven runs on 10 hits over the first 4 1/3 innings.  Emily Moore held the Crimson Hawks scoreless on two hits over the final 1 2/3 innings.
 
5168In the nightcap, Indiana (PA) scratched out a run in the opening inning, before Hoover's team-leading fifth home run of the season knotted it at one in the top of the fourth.
 
The Crimson Hawks came right back with a run in the bottom of the inning on Kaitlyn Beer's double that plated Montgomery, but the Mountain Cats scored two in the fifth to take their first lead of the day.  Montana Mang singled and moved to second.  Sydney Flinn replaced her as a pinch runner and scored on Jade Stubblefield's double, and Elbin followed with an RBI single to give Pitt-Johnstown a 3-2 lead.
 
It was the Crimson Hawks' turn in the bottom of the fifth.  Indiana (PA) retook the lead 5-3 on an RBI double from Kassie Kesneck and a two-run single up the middle from Montgomery.
 
The Mountain Cats narrowed it to 5-4 in the sixth when Hoover led off with a triple and scored on Mang's two-out base hit.
 
Then, with two outs in the top of the seventh, Elbin and Olivia Porter drew walks off of Indiana (PA) reliever Lauren Zola and Hoover doubled to center to give the lead back to Pitt-Johnstown, 6-5.
 
However, the Crimson Hawks loaded the basses with two outs in the seventh and got the three-run, walk-off double from Wall to complete the sweep with the 8-6 victory.
 
Hoover went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double, and three RBI, while Elbin and Mang each had two hits and drove in a run for the Mountain Cats.
 
Kristen Coffay suffered the loss in the circle for Pitt-Johnstown after surrendering eight runs on eight hits.
 
With the sweep, Indiana (PA) improved to 18-12 overall and 10-6 in the PSAC Central.

Pitt-Johnstown travels to Mansfield on Friday for a PSAC doubleheader, before returning home to celebrate Senior Day with a pair of conference games against Indiana (PA) on Saturday at 5 and 7 p.m. at V.E. Erickson Complex.
