Maura Brehl and
Noelle Carota combined for 29 kills to help the Pitt-Johnstown volleyball team stay unbeaten with a 3-sets-to-1 victory over Adelphi (NY) University in Friday's second round of the Walsh University Tournament in North Canton, OH.
Pitt-Johnstown, which improved to 4-0, took the first two sets, 25-21 and 26-24, before Aldephi responded with a 25-19 victory in the third set. However, the Mountain Cats held off Adelphi, 29-27, to close it out in the fourth set.
Brehl finished with 15 kills, 12 digs and six blocks, Carota added 14 kills and a block to lead Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also got six kills from
Grace Miller and five kills and a match-high eight blocks from
Anna Johns.
J.C. Longeville collected a team-high 26 set assists, while
Morgan Yurkovich had 13 assists.Â
Erin Carmody's team-high 17 digs paced Pitt-Johnstown.
Adelphi, which slipped to 1-2, was led by Cara McKenzie's 15 kills, Sara Bisbe's 12 kills, and McKenna Clawson's 10 kills and 11 digs.
Pitt-Johnstown closes ou the Walsh Tournament on Saturday with matches against Grand Valley (MI) state and Walsh, before traveling to Wheeling, W.Va. for the West Liberty/Wheeling Jesuit Tournament next weekend. The Mountain Cats will make their 2018 home debut with PSAC matches against California (PAP on September 21 at 7 p.m. and Seton Hill on September 22 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played in the Sports Center.
