
Sam Thornton scored a pair of first half goals to help Gannon build a 3-0 halftime advantage on its way to a 4-0 victory over the Mountain Cat soccer team in Wednesday's PSAC-opener in Erie. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 2-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference-play.
Gannon opened-up the scoring just six minutes into the match on Sam Thornton's goal off of an assist from Austin Ludwik, before the Golden Knights made it 2-0 when Tyler Martin finished Declan Bingham's cross in the 27
th minute.
Thornton then collected his second goal of the match 11 minutes later to put Gannon in front, 3-0 at the half.
The Golden Knights added a final goal in the 78
th minute by Martin Aanestad to set the final at 4-0.
Jonathan Reboton took the loss in goal for the Mountain Cats after allowing three goals on 11 Gannon shots in the opening 45 minutes. Reoton also made three saves.
Josh Zakrzewski played in net the second half for Pitt-Johnstown and surrendered one goal and made four saves on 11 Golden Knights' shots.
Hedi Mehnaoui and George Zarzauatsidis each played and half in net for Gannon to record the shutout.
With the win, Gannon improved to 1-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the PSAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to PSAC matches at Lock Haven on Saturday and West Chester on September 21, before hosting a conference match against Mercyhurst on Sunday, September 23 at noon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
