
The Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team exploded for three goals in the first 17 minutes, including a goal and two assists from
Abby LaDuke, to secure a 3-1 victory at California University (PA), Tuesday evening. The Mountain Cats, who made it two straight conference wins for the first time since joining in 2013, improved to 2-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the PSAC.
LaDuke scored her first goal of the season to give the Mountain Cats the early 1-0 lead in the 11
th minute. LaDuke scored on a ball that deflected off the post and buried it into the bottom-right corner of the net.
Kacey Sullinger header in the 15
th minute off of LaDuke's assist to make it, 2-0. Then, just two minutes later, LaDuke assisted on
Emily Esser's goal to push it out to 3-0.
California (PA) got on the scoreboard in the 22
nd minute when Carilyn Pasierb scored on a free kick from 20-yards out, but Mountain Cat goalkeeper
Leigh Appolonia kept the Vulcans off the scoreboard the rest of the way to preserve the 3-1 victory.
Appolonia faced 10 California (PA) shots, allowed one goal, and made five saves to record her second win of the season.
Reilly McGlumphy took the loss for the Vulcans after allowing all three of the first half goals.
California (PA) slipped to 1-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Pitt-Johnstown will host a PSAC match against Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field, before traveling to conference matches at Gannon on Wednesday and Lock Haven on September 15.
