Maura Brehl's 14 kills tied for match-high, but Fairmont State (WV) University avenged a earlier loss to Pitt-Johnstown with a 3-sets-to-1 victory over the Mountain Cats in Saturday's third round of the West Liberty/Wheeling Jesuit Conference Crossover Volleyball Tournament. Pitt-Johnstown fell to 4-5.
The Falcons took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-15, before the Mountain Cats answered with a 25-16 win in the third set. However, Fairmont State wrapped-up the match with a 25-17 fourth-set victory.
Brehl added five digs, two service aces, and a pair of blocks to go along with her 14 kills, while
Noelle Carota had seven kills and a block for Pitt-Johnstown. The Mountain Cats also go six kills from
Caitlin Vrabel and five kills apiece from
Anna Johns and
Grace Miller.
Morgan Yurkovich (18 assists) and
J.C. Longeville (17 assists) combined for 35 set assists for the Mountain Cats, while finished with three aces and a match-high 20 digs.
Fairmont State improved to 4-5 on the season behind 14 kills and 11 digs from Yvonne Fullerton and nine kills each from Bri Washburn and Emma Mobley.
